Project Overview
Children and adults in Hungary and Romania choose different forms of physical activity in their daily lives; however, in both countries the average population—young and elderly alike—does not engage in sufficient movement. Although the number of registered athletes has increased recently in both nations, statistics clearly show that the general population is still not active enough. Both countries rank among the highest globally in obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and depression.
The most effective response to these issues is regular daily movement and sports. The Szentes Water Polo Club and Atletico Arad aim to address this challenge jointly and demonstrate that change is possible. Regardless of age, it is never too late to begin exercising. Shared training camps create opportunities to introduce new forms of movement, learn from one another, and build lasting relationships. On the planned Sport and Health Day, held on 13 September 2025, participants of all ages will be able to try various forms of physical activity.
Main Activities
The objective of our project is to strengthen and deepen the cross-border cooperation between the clubs of Arad and Szentes. The project focuses on raising awareness among local residents and club members about health promotion and the importance of daily physical activity.
Both clubs committed to organising joint training camps in Szentes and Arad for 30–30 children and their coaches. These exchange programmes are planned for September 2025. In both locations, the training camp will conclude with a large-scale community Sport and Health Day, expected to attract at least 1,000 participants.
Participation in the planned sports and cultural programmes will be free of charge following prior registration. We are confident that the activities will capture the interest of local residents as well as current and potential club members, encouraging them to take part in the event.
Club presidents, Viktor Vörös and Sándor Mészáros, aimed to develop a programme that inspires and activates every age group. On 13 September 2025, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy beach volleyball, swimming, running, walking, water games, target throwing, water polo, Zumba, and morning exercise sessions. Cultural elements will also be included—guided by the principle “Mens sana in corpore sano” (“A sound mind in a sound body”)—such as celebrations, drawing activities, folk dance performances, and a brass band concert.
The overarching goal of the project is to mobilise the local population and raise awareness of the importance of everyday physical activity and sport.
